Tablet Wars: iPad Pro vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7

Many Android brands, from Google to Xiaomi, have attempted to make their flagship tablets. Still, only Samsung stands as the strong competitor with the combination of brand power, technological resources, marketing muscle, and global availability to race against Apple. In this article, we are putting Apple iPad Pro 2021 to the test against the best Android tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7.

It may not be the most direct comparison since we will look at iPad Pro 12.9-inch against Galaxy Tab 7 and Galaxy Tab 7+ models. Let’s begin!

Display

When we compare iPad Pro with Galaxy Tab 7, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has an extra 1.9 inches
diagonally over Galaxy Tab 7’s screen. Apple’s iPad uses a 4:3 aspect ratio, while Samsung has a wider screen 16:10 aspect ratio. The Tab 7 Series’s wider aspect ratio is best suited for streaming videos or using it as a mini desktop with a keyboard. Using Galaxy Tab 7+ for writing and taking notes may feel tight due to the lack of vertical space.

Apart from the aspect ratio, both screens work smoothly with a 120Hz refresh rate. Apple’s iPad Pro wins with its Mini LED technology over IPS LED Panel in Samsung Galaxy Tab 7. However, Galaxy Tab 7+ displays deeper blacks and punchier reds with its OLED panel. In short, the Apple iPad Pro 2021 feels much smoother, more transparent, and brighter with its Mini LED screen.

Specifications

The Apple iPad Pro series packs more RAM than the Android one. The iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch come with 8GB and 16GB RAM, respectively, while the Tab Series offer either 6GB or 8GB. The Apple M1 silicon powers both models of Apple iPad Pro while the Galaxy Tab S7 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. The M1 processor trumps the Snapdragon 865 in every metric. However, Samsung’s One UI is well-optimized and performs satisfactorily.

Kameras

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 comes with 13MP primary and 5MP ultra-wide cameras, while iPad Pro’s
triple-lens camera features a 12MP main camera, 10MP ultra-wide, and a LIDAR sensor. That’s a
bang for the buck if you go for the iPad Pro series. The iPad Pro’s front-facing options include a 12MP ultra-wide lens and the TrueDepth camera system, while the Galaxy Tab series uses an 8MP standard selfie camera. The Galaxy Tab S7’s main camera produces livelier images than the iPad Pro’s primary camera. However, Samsung selfies have a heavy beautifying effect that can look unnaturally whitened.

Software

The iPad Pro series has the ability to run two apps simultaneously in split-screen mode. The Galaxy Tab S7 runs One UI 2.5, while the iPad Pro runs iPadOS 14.5. If you are trying to use tablets without any keyboard accessory, then opting for iPad should be preferred as iOS mobile apps are more optimized on a large screen than Android tablets. In addition, there’s a far more extensive selection of apps available on the iPad than on Android tablets.

However, when using tablets for productivity work, Samsung’s software stands much more versatile. You can run three apps simultaneously and work without issues on Galaxy Tab 7+. The One UI 2.5 includes ‘DeX mode’ that turns the software into a desktop computer-style UI at the bottom of the screen. Apps open in smaller, resizable windows that can be freely placed anywhere on the screen. This makes the Galaxy Tab 7 series more versatile for those jumping over from a laptop to get some work done on the tablet.

Keyboard Folio and Stylus

The iPad Pro and Galaxy Tab 7 series provide separate purchases for keyboard cases. But the Galaxy Tab 7 series includes the S-Pen free of charge, whereas the iPad Pro’s Apple Pencil companion is an independent purchase. Samsung charges around $200 or $250 for smaller or larger model keyboards, while Apple charges $300 and $350 for its Pro Series keyboard. Apple’s Magic Keyboard has outstanding build quality, while Samsung’s keyboard case feels wobbly.

The Magic Keyboard has been designed thoughtfully; it props up the iPad slightly off the table for better ergonomics. However, Samsung uses a kickstand that allows much more comprehensive options of viewing angles than the Magic Keyboard.

Both keyboards do well in terms of performance. Apple’s trackpad is more precise and less prone to accidental damage than the Samsung Galaxy series. Samsung’s method of keeping the S-pen safe is much more secure than Apple’s iPad Pro. The S-Pen is housed at the back of the tab, and it’s attached magnetically and then covered by the folio case’s flap. On the other hand, the Apple Pencil is magnetically attached to the tablet’s side. It can slip off while putting the device in or out of the backpack.

The 12-inch iPad Pro 2021 and Galaxy Tab 7 series are the highest-quality tablets. The Galaxy Tab 7 has a more comprehensive system that works like a regular desktop, while iPad Pro is more functional and has a better screen aspect ratio for work. In the end, it comes down to individual choices. If you have other Apple devices, you benefit significantly from having an iPad, and if you are an Android user, the Galaxy Tab 7 series would be best for you.
